Flying the flag for Forge at Selvedge Run
Selvedge Run is one of the major trade shows for the denim / heritage / crafted goods community, bringing everyone together twice a year in Berlin. Exhibitors include 3sixteen, Lewis Leathers, Iron Heart, Pure Blue Japan and Tanner Goods - so pretty well anyone you would like to meet gathered together in one space.
We have been before, but this is our first visit since Forge Denim launched, and it was a good opportunity for us to promote our first collection whilst meeting up with old friends and making some new ones. One of the things that we really like about the denim community is that everyone is incredibly friendly. All the people we spoke to were really interested and encouraging, and everyone shares a real passion for producing crafted clothing and accessories that look good now and are designed to last for years.
Whilst we were in Berlin we met up again with Nigel Cabourn and his designer, Shaun Somerville. Nigel is one of our real heroes - he blazed a trail for a lot of companies like Forge, producing really well-made clothes, often based on a vintage design but using modern materials. He also championed English craftsmanship, at a time when the 'smart' move was to outsource manufacture to cheaper factories overseas. In addition to all this he is a really top bloke - friendly and unpretentious.
We are already looking forward to going back to Selvedge Run - next time we'll hopefully be exhibiting!
